Short Message Service (SMS), or also popularly known as text messaging, has turned 25 today!
On December 3, 1992, British engineer Neil Papworth texted his Vodaphone colleague Richard Jarvis the simple text message “Merry Christmas”. Since that day, SMS has made it to the hands of many most popularized by the creation of smartphones. There has been a decline of SMS in recent years due to the growth of WiFi messaging applications such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and WeChat.
The world of communication would be much different today were it not for Neil Papworth finding a new way to wish his colleague a Merry Christmas!
