Helder Machado Named to 'Top 40 Under 40'; Worcester Business Journal and Junior Achievement Recognize Helder Machado for Community Involvement

WESTBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 2004--Applix, Inc. (Nasdaq: APLX), a global provider of Business Intelligence (BI) and Business Performance Management (BPM) solutions, has announced that its Director of Information Technology Helder Machado has been recognized with a 'Top 40 Under 40' award by the Worcester Business Journal and Junior Achievement. Machado, of Sutton, MA, was nominated and selected based on his long history of community commitment and generosity with his time and skills.

Machado actively volunteers in various area churches, soup kitchens, Junior Achievement, and at the Sutton Elementary School, in Sutton, MA, and coaches the Sutton Youth Soccer league. Machado and his family will also be participating in an upcoming walk-a-thon for the Massachusetts Chapter of the ALS Association.

Machado also currently serves in the Massachusetts Army National Guard Reserves and served honorably in the 3rd Infantry Division on active duty during Desert Storm. Upon retiring from full-time military service, Machado earned an Associates Degree in Engineering from the Community College of RI and a Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
